6. Compare traditional teaching and 21st century teaching.

6. Compare traditional teaching and 21st century teaching.
Education has changed a lot today in comparison to the traditional education that we were offered like in 20 years ago. So there are a lot of differences between these two kind of teaching, I will mention some of them. My teacher has given me ones, but others, I have investigated about. Obviously there are more than about these ones, but I just want to point out seven.

    21st CENTURY TEACHING

  1. Picture
  2. Learner as the center of the classroom. One of the terms that are often used in education today is student -centered learning.
  3. Use of the internet to get a broad perspective of a topic.
  4. Learning is multisensory, hands on, authentic, and relevant.
  5. Learners produce as well as consume content. They use critical thinking. They are not passive during their learning but they are actively engaged and responsible for their own learning.
  6. Technology seamlessly integrated into the curriculum. Teacher use a variety of technological devices for teaching. The teacher won't fear technology , he or she will embrace it.
  7. Learners doing more talking and working than the educator during the class. The teacher's role has changed to being the mentors, guides and leaders for learning.
  8. Misbehavior is viewed as an opportunity for growth and often resolved through group effort.
          TRADITIONAL TEACHING
  1.    Content as the center of instruction.
  2.    The teacher is the center of the classroom.
  3.    Use a single textbook to teach the subject.
  4.    Learning is typically only focused with the brain in mind, sometimes not seen as relevant by the students
  5.    Students spend most of their time consuming content created by others
  6.    Teacher do most of the work and talking during class time. Teachers are the experts and the only source of knowledge.
  7.    Technology as an add on, specially, or after though. They want a computer just to report grades.
  8.    Misbehavior is disciplined by the teacher.
I think that the main reason these changes have happened is technology. Due to technology, we as students have greater access to material we need, we are able to share our ideas with other students and collaborative even with experts on things they like, we can see and judge what is good for us and what is not. These facts lead us to a change of attitude towrds education and become more responsible for what we learn. Also, teachers have benefited from technology, as they are able to use it as a tool for better interaction and collaboration in and out the classroom.
