What is to be a young learner?

I would consider young learners to mean up to the age of 16, though I believe that is necessary to sub- catagorise which age group exactly is being referred to. In fact. many books on the subject, for example Teaching Languages to Young learners and Teaching English to Children tend to focus on the younger age groups - pre.primary and primary. Teaching training for young learners could also be more specific as to which age groups they are aimed at, especially regarding  whether the focus is on pre primary , primary or teenagers.
Young learner is a term that is used to refer to children from their fist year or formal schooling (usually somewhere between 5-7 years old)
Well, this semester I have the opportunity to teach children. Now, I know that children are too different from adults; they like to come to classes and to learn something new. During my teaching practice, I was able to see that children do not like to miss classes. They like to learn, but i have noticed that when you are teaching children, you have to teach them in a funny and interesting way , so that they do not get distracted.
The children I taught were intelligent, talkative, dynamic and they were very interested of learning a new language. I was very happy to see that they always participated when I taught them.
I noticed that they enjoyed coloring draws. When they were doing that , they do not get distracted . I think that it was because while they were doing what they like, they do not want to do anything else.
