DESCRIBE THE SALIENT TRAITS BETWEEN NESTS AND
NON-NESTS. PROVIDE REASONING AND REFLECTION UPON YOUR CHOICE.
The salient traits of NEST and Non NEST are many; for example,
1. The most common perceived advantage from a NEST is better pronunciation than a Non NEST. This is true, but we can find people who are not NEST and they speak the foreign language so good.
2. Native English-speaking teachers (NESTs) are the gold standard of spoken and written language, whereas non-native English-speaking teachers (non-NESTs) are inferior educators because they lack this innate linguistic skill. It means that the native speakers know very well their language, but we can easily equal with them because if we study hard, we improve our skills.
3. NESTs are models of pronunciation and correct language use, as well as being repositories of cultural knowledge, but we also find NESTs poor at explaining grammar, and their different cultures created tension. Sometimes companies hire people who are native speakers instead of people who are non native speakers and that have studied for getting the job.
4. Non-NESTs are good teachers of grammar, and have the ability to resort to the students’ first language when necessary. Students find classroom interaction with non-NESTs easier because of their shared culture. Non-NESTs’ pronunciation is often deemed inferior to that of NESTs, but also easier to comprehend. I think, we as learner of foreign language can find a conection with a Non NEST because they have the tools for teachong us. ( same language, profesion and comprehension with us)
